RSNSW 1313th OGM: June 2023

Dietmar Muller and Susan PondThe Society's 1313th Ordinary General Meeting was held in the Gallery Room of the State Library of NSW on 7 June. An audience of approximately forty people enjoyed an outstanding lecture titled "Making rights a reality — the need for a Human Rights Act for Australia", delivered by Emeritus Professor Rosalind Croucher AM FAAL, President of the Australian Human Rights Commission.

In her presentation, Professor Croucher advanced the case for a Human Rights Act for Australia, reflecting on experiences during COVID and the difference a Human Rights Act may have made — and where it has helped in places where a human rights lens is legislated for decision and policy-making. The talk presented a cogent case for, and analysis of, the need for a Human Right Act for Australia in a way that is highly accessible to a non-legal audience.

Some images from that occasion are available at this link for viewing and downloading. The recording of this presentation is now available on the Society's YouTube channel.
