UNSW Sydney

Date: Thursday, 17 November 2022, 6.30 pm AEDT
Venue: RSL Mittagong, Carrington Room

Summary: Dr Maroufi’s field of research is high temperature metallurgical processes and iron-steel making to develop new science and technology for the recycling of waste. From these new processes have come extraordinary developments in producing a new generation of green materials, products and resources made entirely, or primarily of waste. SMaRT was founded in 2008 at UNSW by Scientia Professor Veena Sahajwalla, best known for her Green Steel invention.

Samane Maroufi has been very successful in attracting grants to support her research in this critical area. In 2020, she and Veena received $100,000 for their research program Microrecycling of battery and consumer wastes, and later in the same year attracted a grant of $3,317,500 in further support of this exciting project. In 2021, she was awarded the Honour of Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FEHA).
