The Council of the Society was delighted to learn that Fellow, Professor Sami Kara FRSN, of the UNSW School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, was recently elected as a Fellow of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering (ACATECH) for his lifelong contributions to sustainable manufacturing—with reference to the fields of energy and resource efficiency in manufacturing, decarbonisation, the circular economy and industrial symbiosis, reuse and recycling, and life cycle assessment and costing.
Funded by the Federal Government and the States of Germany, ACATECH is the voice of the technological sciences within Germany, providing independent, evidence-based advice on strategic engineering and technology policy issues to policymakers and the public.
At UNSW Sydney, Professor Kara is the founder and director of the Sustainable Manufacturing and Life Cycle Engineering Research Group and is the joint director of the Joint German-Australian Research Group (JGARG) “Sustainable Manufacturing and Life Cycle Management”.
The Council of the Society extends its sincere congratulations to Professor Kara on this international recognition of his lifelong contributions to sustainable manufacturing.
