Society Fellow, Professor Maria Kavallaris AM FRSN FAHMS, has been acknowledged for her life’s research in cancer biology and therapeutics by the awarding of a Republic of Cyprus President’s Medal for Outstanding Contributions by the President, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia, Cyprus on 28 July 2022.
Professor Kavallaris, who is Head of the Translational Cancer Nanomedicine Theme at the Children’s Cancer Institute and UNSW (Sydney), is an outstanding scientific leader who is internationally recognised for her research in cancer biology and therapeutics, and her innovation in driving interdisciplinary research in cancer nanomedicine. Amongst her achievements are the NSW Premier’s Woman of the Year Award (2020), and the Eureka Prize for the Innovative Use of Technology (2021). She is also a finalist in this year’s Eureka Prize for Outstanding Mentor of Young Researchers.
