The Royal Society of New South Wales was delighted to learn of the announcement by the University of Manchester that its next Vice-Chancellor, from 1 August 2024, will be Professor Duncan Ivison FRSN FAHA.
Most recently Professor Ivison, who is a Professor of Political Philosophy, was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University of Sydney, and before that the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. He completed his undergraduate studies with a BA in Political Science at McGill University, where he grew up, and his postgraduate studies, comprising an MSc and PhD, at the London School of Economics. Professor Ivison was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Humanities in 2009 and as a Fellow of the Royal Society of New South Wales in 2017. His RSNSW Fellowship laudation notes that he “is an accomplished political philosopher and a senior academic leader who has written extensively on human rights and liberalism.”
The Council of the Royal Society of New South Wales extends its warmest congratulations to Professor Ivision on his appointment as the incoming Vice-Chancellor at Manchester and wishes him every success in the role.
