Jackie Leach Scully FRSN elected as 2024 Academy of the Humanities Fellow

The Royal Society of New South Wales was delighted to learn that Professor Jackie Leach Scully FRSN FAHA was recently elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities.

The Council of the Society extends its warmest congratulations to Professor Leach Scully on this recognition of her research.

Jackie Leach Scully is the Professor of Bioethics and Director of the Disability Innovation Institute at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. Following a first career in biomedical science, she has been recognised internationally for significant contributions to the bioethics of disability, feminist bioethics, and empirical bioethics more broadly. Her work has been supported by several competitive grants from national funding bodies in Switzerland and the UK, and in Australia from the Australian Research Council and National Health and Medical Research Council.

Professor Leach Scully has held several Visiting Fellowships or Professorships, including at the Technisches Universität Berlin, Utrecht University, UTS Sydney, Macquarie University, and Newcastle University, UK. She is a Fellow of the UK’s Academy of Social Sciences and Royal Society of Arts London, of the Hastings Center, New York, and of the Royal Society of New South Wales. Her service includes chairing the Health Ethics Advisory Panel of NSW Ministry of Health, and membership of the NHMRC’s Australian Health Ethics Committee and Embryo Research Licensing Committee. She is currently the Editor of the International Journal of Feminist Approaches to Bioethics.
