An audience of approximately 50 people who attended the Society’s 1330th Ordinary General Meeting at the State Library of NSW on 2 April, heard a spellbinding vision of the of the future of engineering in which, over the next forty years, it will deliver even more profound change for humanity through the intersection of four technology domains – Digital, Biology, Materials, and Energy.
The excellent, and at times provocative, presentation from Professor Hugh Durrant-Whyte FRS FRSE FAA FIEEE, the NSW Chief Scientist and Engineer, titled ‘Engineering the Future‘ discussed a vision of engineering that spanned artificial intelligence, the revolution that is transforming biology into an engineering technology, the impact of which will surpass that of the information age, the transformation of materials science which is now focused on nano-structures, meta-materials and additive engineering, and the unprecedented revolution that is occurring in renewable energy technologies.
A video recording of the presentation and Q&A session is now available on the Society’s YouTube channel, while a collection of images from the occasion is also available for viewing and download.
